My mother's first car was a 1939 Ford. Here are some pictures of "Algy". The pictures don't show the car that well because the photographer insisted on letting children stand in front of the car.
The 1939 and 1940 Fords were very similar and there were many beautiful examples at the Big Bear Car show. Here is a 1940 coupe.
Here is a 1940 Tudor, similar to mom's 1939. The grill and tail lights are different between the years.
Here are a couple of 1940s.
Another coupe.
Many of these cars were not restored, but had more modern mechanicals, such as Chevrolet V-8 engines. Here is an earlier Ford sporting the original flathead engine.
Another 1940 coupe.
From the grill, this is a 1939 deluxe or a 1940 standard. If the wheels are original, it's a 1940 with the small bolt pattern.
A nice red 1940 coupe.
A 1939 Tudor Sedan.
The 1940 had chevron tail lights - the 1939 had oval lights. The deluxe model came with a tail light on both sides but the standard model only had one on the left. Neither year came with the wheels this one is sporting. The 1939 originally had a large diameter bolt pattern you can see on our car in the old pictures, but the 1940 had a smaller pattern.
